Good day, internet!
We would like one and all to know about the recent birthday of Kristen Nelson – one of our dear friends and a fellow lover of Catan. I think she’s like 23 years old now or something like that ;), and we had a blast last Wednesday celebrating at Oskar’s, a kitschy little restaurant/bar/mini-psychadelic-arcade in Lyons. Yes, I did say mini-psychadelic arcade.

Anyhoo, we met up with the crew, and Jared (Kristen’s hubby, above right) showed up with about 10 million rolls of quarters for everyone to use in the arcade (he also happens to work at a bank…go figure). We then headed on over to Oskar’s for a rip-roaring good time. The food was great, but the best part of the night, at least for me, was gripping the real-to-life handlebars on the Paperboy arcade game and trying not to hit the breakdancers that were randomly spinning on the sidewalk, while trying to toss newspapers into the correct mailboxes. If that’s not a good time, I don’t know what is.
Interestingly enough, I think the arcade was made with the intention that it would be primarily used by patrons tripping on mushrooms or other similar narcotical producticals, as there were black lights galore and lots of posters that, if stared at long enough, will lead you straight to the 4th dimension (see below – I almost got sucked in). I think we all had a great time sans-narcotics, however, and I must say, I’d highly recommend such an activity – not narcotics, but going to play old school arcade games under black lights with your friends.
