Road Trip 2010…Big Sur

Hello faithful friends!  We are still alive and Guanella is still moving!  We’re currently sitting in Cafe Presse, in Hipsterville, Seattle, WA. We have been too busy driving, drinking in beauty, editing recent client sessions, or lacking internet access to post the past few days, so I will pick up where we left off….leaving Carpinteria, CA on our way up the coast on highway 1. This drive was absolutely breath-takingly spectacular.  If you haven’t been here, go! We have so many photos and it was so hard to pick a a few for this post.  We are looking forward to going through them more carefully when we get home!

More to come soon, but for now…enjoy the photos!!

The water is bright beautiful blue-green…

We stopped to see these ginormous elephant seals on the beach.  They are molting right now and there were tons of them just laying on the beach, or scooting around, or sparring with each other.  Extremely strange animals…and huge!  It’s hard to tell the scale here, but we found out the males weigh something like 5000 lbs!

I don’t blame you if you think this is photoshopped, but it isn’t! :)  We freaked out a little at this beauty!

We ate at Nepenthe and it was perfect.  It’s this restaurant that sits right on a cliff overlooking the water.  We got to sit at the rail and look out at the ocean as we ate their amazing food.  (Thanks for the suggestion Lindsey, it couldn’t have been better!!)

We ended up that night in Carmel-by-the-Sea.  We watched the sunset at the beach…more insane beauty!  Then sat in a coffee shop getting some work done for a while before setting up camp in park in Monterey…which is right next door.

Happy belated 4th of July everyone!  More to come soon!

Lindsey - So beautiful! You guys hit all my favorite spots. I’m familiar with that one overlook that seems to be photoshopped. I stopped at that exact spot around sunset on my first drive up there because the view was just absolutely insane. Then I looked down at the water and saw two guys surfing. I have no idea how they got down there. And the beach in Carmel is one of my all-time favorites. Looks like you guys had a blast!ReplyCancel

We’ve extended our SoCal stay a bit longer than expected, but should be heading in and out of LA over the next week and then its beach beach beach all the way up!! Trav - Aw, heck Lindsey! Thanks! We miss you kids too – when the haybales are you coming back this way?! I told Darren on the phone yesterday, but you should make a point to camp at Flint Ridge in Redwood National Park – so amazing. It sounds like you guys are taking it easy (doing it the right way) and meeting lots of cool folks…right on :). OK, Guanella wanted me to tell you that she misses Lulu, and would like to hang out again!ReplyCancel
