Happy 16th Birthday, Jess

(Post by TR | Personal) (In photo above, Jesse is #83)

Today is the day my now not-so-little brother was born, and the photos that go along with this post are all a sort of tribute to him. He was born when I was 10 years old, and he was pretty much instantly my best friend. When I was a kid, my two older brothers would always kind of gang up on me, but once Jess came around I had someone new to hang out with, and I absolutely loved it – even if he did pee on me when I changed his diaper (thanks Jess…I think you were laughing at my expense even before you knew how to laugh!). I remember the good times we’d have, just playing together in the living room – always wrestling, playing legos, reading…and I remember taking him with me just about everywhere I’d go, even when I was older, like the time I brought him to some of my classes in college when he was like 9. I’ve always just loved being around Jess, and even when I was young I just sort of took it on myself to be his advocate, to be there for him, to be in his corner. Even from way back when he was a little tike, he’s always been a blast to be around; he is one of those people you find that are genuine, the kind of people you want to surround yourself with because they make you a better person. He has an amazing heart, a huge smile, a super-contagious laugh and a great sense of humor, a seriously brilliant mind, he is tough in a way a man needs to be yet is still always conscious of others, and as I’ve watched him grow up, all I have to say is that I am proud of him for the man he is becoming.

Here’s to you, Jess. I love you, and Happy 16th Birthday!
