Good Morning, Seattle!

OK, so after posting the last blog entry, I noticed that it was akin to a Tolstoy novel, and to read it you likely would have needed to go get a cup of coffee and your foot pillow and settle in for the night in front of your glow screen. I just got a little ‘into it’ and got carried away…sometimes I just like writing, OK?!? Jeeeeeez people. I do know that at least three people did grab their foot pillow and coffee, and would like to thank them for their dedication. Anyway, I promised that since this is a photo blog and not actually an infinite-part Tolstoy novel, I wouldn’t bore the internet at large with War-and-Peace type blogs anymore, and to make up for it, this one’s short and sweet!

We got to go bowling last night with none other than Ashley and Brian, of Brian & Ashley fame, and had a blast. We got home around 10:30 or so, and I decided to break out my Speedlights, PocketWizards, and cam and try to take a reasonable photo of something using only the flashes. Lighting can be infinitely tricky, and I wanted to challenge myself to do something cool sort of on the fly, which is always good practice, and especially so for wedding photogs. So, without further adieu, here is a little photo I took in the living room last night. Any deconstructors out there want to guess where the lights were? Hint: I used two flashiedoos and a reflector.

Happy Saturday!

Genny - ok, here's my guess. but please don't laugh… I think you had one light above, flashing down on half the chair and the other light aimed at the subject from the right side of the photo, with the reflector on the left side of the photo filling some of the shadows on that side. It's a really cool shot, however you did it.ReplyCancel

Trav - Awesome guess – you almost hit the nail on the head! One above, and one actually on camera but pointed directly right, bouncing off a reflector, to give a nice fill. And thanks Genny!ReplyCancel

Trav - Hey, thanks Holly! It took a bit to tweak things just right, but I really like how it came out, too ;)ReplyCancel
